ESSEX JUNCTION LITTLE LEAGUE REGULAR SEASON COACHING REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS

To be a regular season coach at any level...
-one must have completed and submitted a volunteer form, per Little League requirements.
-one must be selected / approved by the EJLL board for a coaching role
*Baseball knowledge is preferred, but not required.

T-Ball and Coach Pitch philosophy
-Games are not competitive, score is not kept.
-All kids get to bat one time through their lineup each inning.
-Kids should get the opportunity to try different defensive positions, as long as safety and discipline are not issues.
-Coaches are expected to be positive role models, and provide instruction in basic baseball fundamentals and game play, in a fun, safe environment.

Majors (AL) and Minors (NL), Regular Season philosophy
At the Minors / National League, and Majors / American League levels, score is kept.  Unless games in progress are called due to weather, lack of daylight, etc., there is a "winning team" and a "losing team".
-The objective is continued focus on further development and improvement of baseball fundamentals, and understanding gameplay, within a safe, positive, environment.
-The kids should always be expected to put forth their best effort.  However, from the coaching perspective, the main focus during the regular season IS NOT to win games.
-All kids will play in the field, and not sit on the bench defensively more than one inning in a row (unless required due to injury or discipline)
-All kids should be scheduled to play more than one position during regular season games (unless safety or specific situations require certain limitations)
-All kids will bat, when their spot in the order is due up, even if they are not in the field at the time of their scheduled plate appearance.
-Teams will use one continuous order during the regular season, and will "pick up where the left off" from the previous game.  This will help ensure a more equitable number of plate appearances for all kids throughout the regular season.
-Coaches are expected to be positive role models, in all scenarios.  At no time should any coach argue with an umpire.  If there is a need to question any call, coaches should demonstrate an appropriate, respectful way to do so.
